Sentinel Teaches A University About ITIL

Environment

The customer had a wide variety of communication, data center, cloud, and security technologies throughout their environment acquired from several different vendors, including Trinity and Dell.

Challenge

When the customer would encounter issues with their technology, they struggled to obtain the right vendor support able to navigate their complex, mixed IT environment. They were looking for a true single-source partner with the ability to improve their processes and streamline their solutions for better overall functionality and easier support.

Solution

Sentinel’s Advisory Services team engaged with the customer, performing an initial IT Infrastructure Library (ITIL) assessment to better understand their environment and processes. The customer agreed to a series of 90 minute workshops for some of their staff to help align the business with best practices for IT service management. Each workshop was led by a Sentinel consultant, who identified the areas in need of improvement and submitted recommendations to the customer for solutions moving forward. These were used in the development of a strategic roadmap organized by priority level, so the customer can strengthen and streamline their technology and overall business piece by piece.

Results

The changes implemented by the customer based on recommendations from Sentinel have already improved their customer service, web portal, and project management. They also refreshed their security with a next-generation firewall from Palo Alto that included HANSTM support and 24x7x365 monitoring from Sentinel’s Security Operations Center (SOC). New change management procedures have been implemented using ITIL templates as well. A Sentinel strategic advisor meets with the customer once or twice every week to provide input on key processes and solutions to change or prioritize as they continue to move forward using the strategic roadmap.
